Man taken into custody for accident that left 1 seriously injured
On Dec. 16, it was reported that police officers in Florida took a man they believed was involved in a serious hit-and-run accident into custody. According to the report, the accident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Southwest 64th Avenue as the victim was working on a concrete construction project.
The man was taken to Ryder Trauma Center with a severed leg. At first, doctors did not know whether they were going to be able to reattach the man’s limb. However, the surgery, which occurred at Jackson Memorial Hospital on Dec. 16, was successful.
The driver of a heavily damaged Ford Explorer was observed leaving the scene and heading south towards Flagler Street. Officers stated that the vehicle in question was an older model that may have sustained extensive damage as a result of the accident. While a man was in custody, officers were still seeking information regarding the accident at the time the report was released.
Neighbors who spoke with reporters indicated that people would often travel at speeds of more than 70 mph on Southwest 64th Avenue. One person was also reported to have yelled at the driver to stop directly after the accident occurred.
Those who become involved in car accidents are at risk for being seriously injured. Injuries can include severe brain trauma, broken bones and even limb amputations. Those who are seriously injured may be eligible to seek monetary compensation by filing a personal injury lawsuit. This compensation may cover damages associated with the accident, including medical bills and lost income. This lawsuit allows the injured person to hold the driver who caused the accident responsible. In cases where the driver cannot be found, the injured person may still be able to seek compensation through their own insurance company.
