Florida trooper airlifted following 5-vehicle pileup

Florida trooper airlifted following 5-vehicle pileup

Auto accidents turn ordinary drives on the freeway into nightmares in an instant. They sometimes leave drivers and passengers with serious injuries that can lead to lifelong problems and complications. Distracted drivers are oftentimes at the root of a car accident, whether they were texting and driving, driving recklessly or simply driving too fast.

A recent five-vehicle pileup on I-95 left a three-year veteran of the Florida Highway Patrol with injuries requiring that she be airlifted to the hospital. According to police, the Dec. 28 accident occurred when a black pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed slammed into the trooper’s patrol car. At the time, the trooper was stopped in the inside median lane, investigating an earlier crash. The driver of the truck was also injured and taken to the hospital.

The patrol car was stopped in a lane that is reserved for emergencies. A spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol expressed his amazement that the trooper escaped the auto accident with her life, because her patrol car was demolished.

Serious auto accidents can leave those injured with hefty medical bills and no ability to work. When a negligent, careless or reckless driver causes injury to others on the roadway as a result of speeding or distraction, injured parties should know that they may be entitled to pursue compensation for damages, including lost wages, pain and suffering and medical expenses.

In the case of this Florida trooper, there may also be workers’ compensation benefits available that could help her through her recovery.
