Construction worker falls to his death
Many people in the Miami area work in the construction industry. There are always several major construction projects going on that require workers to make them happen. A construction job can be a dangerous occupation, but there are many safety steps that employers can take in order to ensure their workers remain safe on the job. Unfortunately, a recent tragic accident occurred on the border of Miami-Dade and Broward counties, when a construction worker who was working on the Optima project died on the job.
The building was one of several that are being constructed in a multi-tower construction project expected to be completed by the end of the year. The construction worker was a subcontractor who fell approximately 10 stories in an elevator shaft that didn’t have an elevator in it yet. The Broward Medical Examiner’s Office and the Occupational Health and Safety Administration were notified of the accident, which is still being investigated.
No one expects their loved one will suffer a serious injury or even death at their place of work. Even if a person works in a dangerous occupation it doesn’t mean that they should be injured. An employer has the duty to ensure their employees always have a safe environment and the training necessary to make sure they go home at the end of the day. If a family has been affected by an unexpected fall and death, they may want to get more information about personal injury legal options. Doing so can help a family investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident and help determine what happened. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, funeral expenses and other damages.
A work accident is a terrible tragedy for everyone. Not only has a person suffered a serious injury or death, but their family is now facing thousands of dollars of unexpected expenses along with not having their loved one’s income anymore. These families may have the legal right to hold the employer responsible for their negligence.
