Florida Senate passes sanctuary city bill
Miami residents understand that there are many immigrants in Miami and across Florida. These immigrants are valuable members of our society. They participate in all areas of life including education, church and jobs. A new bill that has passed both the house and senate in Florida will affect many of those immigrants.
The Florida Senate has passed a bill that bans sanctuary cities in Florida. A similar bill was recently passed in the Florida House. The bill would force local law enforcement to comply with requests from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Local law enforcement would need to hold immigrants in custody who are suspected being in the country illegally until federal authorities arrive. A coalition of many parties including business leaders, farmers, and social justice advocates tried to block the legislation, with many arguing that the bill will allow racial profiling.
In the current political climate immigrants can feel like they are under attack. If an immigrant has questions regarding U.S. immigration law, they may want to speak with a legal professional who is skilled in immigration. An attorney understands the complicated factors that involve immigration in the U.S. They will work tirelessly for their client by answering their questions and leading them down the path of citizenship. Just one wrong form filed, or mistake made can be a serious setback for a U.S. immigrant which is why it is important to have an immigration advocate.
The current political climate towards immigrants is not great in Florida. Recent laws that have been passed have the ability to deeply affect immigrants. An immigrant may want to consult with an attorney to help with their legal needs and ensure their rights are protected.
