What are the stages of kidney disease?
Your kidneys play a very important role in your health. They help to remove toxins and waste from your body. If they do not work correctly, you will get very sick. While modern medicine has many options for treatment, and you can even get a kidney transplant because people can live with only one kidney, that does not mean that you should take kidney disease lightly. In fact, if you suspect something is wrong with your kidneys you should see a doctor in Florida right away. It also helps to understand a little about the stages of kidney disease so you can track what is happening with your body.
The American Kidney Fund explains there are five stages of kidney damage that you will experience if you have kidney disease. The stages range from one to five with five being the most severe and the point right before complete kidney failure.
Stage one is mild kidney damage. At this point, you may be able to work with your doctor to stop the damage from getting worse, but you will likely not have symptoms. Stage two is similar in that the damage is mild with no symptoms.
Stage three means the damage to your kidneys is progressing and getting worse. You may have symptoms at this point. However, you can still do things to stop the damage from progressing. Stage four may be moderate to severe damage. You will likely experience symptoms at this stage. You may also have other complications as a result, and your doctor may begin talking about a transplant.
Stage five is the most severe. This is the point where you are almost to total failure. You will experience symptoms and need quite a bit of care. This information is for education and is not legal advice.
